Afya microfinance Limited (AMIF) is a social enterprise established in 2012 by APHFTA for the purpose of providing affordable loans to the Private health sectors in Tanzania. The company is owned by APHFTA.

The desire of APHFTA to establish AMIF was prompted by study conducted with various stakeholders in the health sector including IFC, Dalberg, Bienmovo etc. The study confirmed an open and significant financing demand gap among private providers of health care services due to nature and locations of the businesses. The study also identified challenges facing providers of private health care while trying to access financial services to formal commercial banks and financial institutions due to various factors including lack of formal collateral and high outreach cost especially to rural population where more than 70% population reside.
